Pelvic Apophysites

Introduction

Pelvic Apophysites is pain located in the hip/pelvis in the growing child.  An apophysis is a cartilage growth center that is the origin/insertion of a muscle's tendon.

In the growing child, the apophysis is a relative "weak link" during excessive muscle contracture.  Excessive activities and sports may cause a pain syndrome at these sites referred to as an apophysitis.  There are multiple apophyses around the pelvis/hip that are prone to aches and pains with too much running.
