Patellar Dislocations

Introduction

Patellar dislocations occur when the kneecap (the patella) slides too far to one side, often occurring as the result of a blow to the knee, a twisting injury or a fall. Patellar dislocations can be partial or complete. Symptoms of patellar dislocation vary depending on the severity. However, most patients will experience pain, swelling, and a feeling that the knee may give away or buckle and a sensation of the kneecap shifting or moving out of place.
