Loose Bodies (Hip)

Introduction

Loose bodies are small fragments of cartilage or bone that break off from the hip or hip joint. They are common in injuries and as a result of joint degeneration due to some forms of arthritis. Loose bodies can be painful as the fragments are often moving and can become caught in parts of the joint.

In order to diagnose loose bodies, your physician will utilize imaging tests such as an x-ray or MRI to see where the loose bodies are positioned in the hip joint.
