Gymnastic's Wrist

  • Introduction

  • Conservative Treatment

Gymnast's Wrist refers to pain in the wrist of the growing child who frequently bears weight on the upper extremities, often caused by doing hand stands and cartwheels.  This is a potentially concerning problem as chronic pain may cause growth plate changes, causing an imbalance in the relationship between the radius and ulna.  This leads to another wrist pain syndrome called ulnar impaction.

Rest and immobilization with a splint or cast are recommended.
