Lyme Disease

  • Introduction

Lyme Disease is endemic to Long Island.  It is caused by a bacteria and is  transmitted by a tick.  The involvement of the body’s joints may occur months after initial exposure.  As such, symptoms of joint pain and/or swelling can occur throughout the year.  A blood test will confirm a Lyme Disease diagnosis.  Once the diagnosis is confirmed, referral to an Infectious Disease specialist is made.  The typical course of treatment for Lyme Disease is a month of antibiotics.
