Growing Pains

  • Introduction

  • Conservative Treatment

Growing Pains refers to pain in one or both lower extremities in young children.  Pains usually correlate with increasing activities and frequently occur after activities or at night.  The diagnosis of “growing pains” comes after other, more concerning conditions, are ruled out.  X-rays are necessary to ensure the bones are otherwise normal.

Anti-inflammatory medications, massage of the affected areas, and stretching, help to relieve symptoms.  Children eventually out-grow growing pains, but it may take a while.
